Boston Bruins goalie passes on White House visit

Tim ThomasAnd if I were in his shoes, I would have done the exact same thing.

Fox News has the story.

Boston Bruins’ star goaltender Tim Thomas skipped Monday’s White House visit by the Stanley Cup champions due to political differences with President Barack Obama.

When it came to explaining why he passed on what could be a once in a lifetime chance to meet the most powerful person in the free world, Thomas didn’t mince his words:

“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People,” Thomas said in a statement.

“This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government,” he wrote.

“Because I believe this, today (Monday) I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.”

The story does mention that Thomas is a fan of Glenn Beck, which makes him even cooler in my eyes.  And you can tell it’s an election year, otherwise there is no way Obama would have said this about a guy that called out the federal government:

“This Stanley Cup was won by defense as much as by offense,” Obama said. “Tim Thomas posted two shutouts in the Stanley Cup Finals and set an all-time record for saves in the postseason and he also earned the honor of being only the second American ever to be recognized as the Stanley Cup playoffs MVP.”

I definitely feel Tim deserves the oh-so-random “Tells It Like It Is” Award for this one!  Tim said what he believes, and his actions emphasized how strong his beliefs are.  He didn’t get in anyone’s face or create a stir.  He didn’t make a spectacle of himself.  All he did was make his voice heard, but he did it with0ut raising his voice at all.

Here’s to ya, Tim Thomas!  Glad to see you standing up for what you believe in.  Cheers!!

    Tim,

I will not mince words. You are an idiot. Maybe you should get into politics and fix the mess this country is in.

It’s pretty clear over the last month your goaltending is slipping and as a life long bruins fan i think it’s time to trade your soory old ass and give Tuka his do.
