Is Obama for change, or more of the same, in Iran
Obama has spoken on the elections in Iran. The POTUS on Friday said “We are excited to see what appears to be a robust debate taking place in Iran. Whoever ends up winning the election in Iran, the fact there has been a robust debate hopefully will advance our ability to engage them in new way.” Today Obama says he is troubled by the violence he has been seeing on the TV but it’s up to Iran to pick it’s own leaders and it is important that the voters’ choices be respected.
Talk about avoiding the subject of a fraudulent election. Obama could have been a strong figure and thrown his support to those who are rising against the current regime (aka change), but instead he took the easy way out and said whatever happens is cool with him (aka more of the same ol’ thing with Ahmadinejad). By taking the position he did, Obama just showed Ahmadinejad he is okay with the current state of affairs in Iran and has no intentions on objecting to it.
America should not force a regime change in Iran. It is up to the citizens of Iran to choose their leaders. But the uprising against Ahmadinejad presented an opportunity for America to show we support the citizens of Iran and the change they are seeking. It also was an opportunity for Obama to take the position that he is not going to back down from Ahmadinejad and will not accept more of the same from him. Now both of these opportunities have slipped away and are as good as gone altogether.
So much for change………………………….
